ISCO Direct Injection in LA Traffic

The Legacy Team recently completed an ISCO Activated Sodium Persulfate injection project for Apex and JAG Consulting Group. The direct push injection points were located downgradient from an active service station at a project site in Los Angeles.

All injection points were located in either the #2 northbound lane, #2 southbound lane, or the center turn lane of a heavily trafficked Los Angeles commuting corridor.

We were able to set up our Injection trailer in the service station parking lot, for the points located in the #2 southbound lane.

Working in the lanes of traffic

For injection points located in the #2 northbound lane and the center turn lane, we took our injection trailer, support truck, Geoprobe, oxidant, activator, and mix water with us in the street.

Chemical Handling

At the beginning of each day, we loaded the sodium persulfate oxidant and ferrous sulfide activator on the deck of our injection trailer.

Mix Water Logistics

For the street staging areas, we also had to bring mix water, so we filled our portable water tank from the LADWP hydrant meter.

Coring & Hand Augering

After the traffic control subcontractor set up the lane closure, we entered the work area and cored through asphalt with the Geoprobe, then hand augered to 5 feet bgs.

Injection Tool Advancement

We advanced the direct push injection tooling with one of our Geoprobe 7822 Direct Push Rigs.

Reagent Mixing

We mixed reagents in alternating batches in our onboard stainless steel mix tanks, then injected them using a chemical injection pump distributed through our multi-point injection manifold.

Managing Safety and Efficiency

Whenever street work is involved, situational awareness and general alertness need to be cranked up a few notches. Our client, the traffic control crew, and our team all did their part in keeping everyone safe.
